CSTA’s 2017 Semi-Annual Meeting
November 26-28, 2017
Hyatt Regency Calgary, Alberta
A message from Dan Wright, 2017-2018 President
Please join me this year in Calgary, Alberta for the 2017 CSTA Semi-Annual Meeting. Since our Annual Meeting in July, a lot of hard work has been done on important issues and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to bring you updates on that progress. As you know, we greatly value your feedback and advice and the Semi-Annual Meeting is the perfect opportunity to check-in with you to see if you agree with the direction of our policy, how we’re doing as an association, to get your ‘on the ground’ experience and to ensure that that experience is reflected in your participation at our committee meetings.
CSTA has been very busy since the Annual Meeting, and in addition to our work on the national and international level to facilitate the trade of seed, some specific projects that you can look forward to receiving more information on at the Semi-Annual Meeting include:
- Seed Synergy discussions;
- Our participation in the Seed Association of the Americas and the International Seed Federation;
- Women in Agriculture; and
- Work from the Stakeholder Relations Working Group.
Our committee sessions will look to expand on their important work in areas such as government regulations on neonicotinoids, plant breeding innovation, pollinator health, intellectual property protection, international phytosanitary standards and value creation. We will be reporting back on the progress that has been achieved since the July and we will look ahead to set new priorities for the coming months.
We also recognize that the Semi-Annual Meeting is an important venue for our delegates to conduct business. For that reason, we will continue to offer our ‘Trading Room’ that allows delegates to reserve a meeting table in one large room to conduct scheduled and last-minute business meetings. For more information, please contact Kristen St. Denis at firstname.lastname@example.org.
You will have the opportunity to renew old friendships and make new ones during our sessions and social events. The meeting will kick-off with the President’s Reception on Sunday, November 26, 2017 and will also include an informal evening reception on Monday, November 27, 2017. I would also welcome you to explore the wonderful sights and sounds that Calgary has to offer in your free time with your friends both new and old.
Meeting planning is still in the early stages, so I would welcome you to check back often for updates. We will also highlight the events through Trade Winds Weekly.
I hope that you will make your plans now to come to Calgary and I look forward to seeing you there.
